Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy and Planning for Our Future Economy

ECONorthwest was part of a consultant team that advised Greater Portland Inc. and Metro on the development of a new five-year Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) and Economic Recovery Plan. ECONorthwest drafted discussion papers that examine economic disruptions and trends that are likely to impact the economy of the greater Portland region in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and changing worker and business preferences and conducted data analysis to understand shifting trends in the regional economy. The disruptions analysis evaluated automation, e-commerce, remote work, and the effects of the pandemic and ECONorthwest identified actions and policy responses to mitigate negative impacts and, where possible, leverage new opportunities. The data analysis was used to identify sector based strategies and actions developed to support equitable economic growth throughout the region.
