Long-term Impacts of Poverty Reduction

ECOnorthwest helped the United Way of the Columbia-Willamette understand the potential impacts of an expanded Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) on Portland’s future education and economic landscape. Drawing from an in-depth review of relevant research literature, our team characterized the causal effect of EITC receipt on subsequent educational attainment and explored how the anticipated increase in attainment might influence the region’s economic output. The results suggested that increasing the EITC would lead to improved educational attainment and increased economic activity over a long period of time.
