Santiam Canyon Fires Economic Impacts and Recovery Opportunities

ECONorthwest assessed the economic impacts of the 2020 Labor Day fires and identified opportunities to accelerate economic recovery in the Santiam Canyon. As part of this work, we prepared a baseline of the economic conditions in the Canyon before the fire, and quantified how the fires changed the economy and social and economic well-being of the communities in the Canyon. We worked collaboratively with many partners also engaged in assessing the fire’s impact and supported initial visioning efforts in Gates and Detroit conducted by Better Cities.
