Marty specializes in spatial analysis, cartography, and data visualization, and loves devising elegant ways to communicate complex information through maps and charts. At ECOnorthwest, his work spans visualizing land cover use and change, demographics, hydrography, transportation networks, and beyond, as well as 3D modeling. Combining R programming skills with graphic design and storytelling experience, he’s quick to deliver lucid, useful graphics that go easy on the eyes. Before diving into the world of GIS, Marty toured North America and Europe for a dozen years as a founding member of the band Blitzen Trapper, and was inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame in 2024. He currently serves as a Planning Commissioner for the City of Scappoose.
