Ian specializes in housing capacity analysis, identifying barriers to housing production, updating zoning code, and community planning.
Ian recently joined ECOnorthwest; much of his work will involve assisting Washington and Oregon cities with implementing state-level mandates to plan for and support housing production. He emphasizes user experience, thoughtful community engagement, accessible public-facing materials, information-rich maps, and data analysis to uncover hidden patterns in his work. As a consultant prior to joining ECOnorthwest, Ian developed guidance materials for the Washington State Department of Commerce and led subarea plans and code updates for cities and counties across Washington State.
Ian recently relocated to Portland, where he volunteers as Bikes For Humanity PDX and Portland: Neighbors Welcome. As an Americorps volunteer he worked as part of an environmental team in the woods and natural areas of Oregon; as a Peace Corps volunteer he supported Spanish literacy in rural libraries and schools in Paraguay.
