Recreational Trails Contribute More than $8.2 Billion Annually to Washington State’s Economy

An ECONorthwest study on the economic benefits of recreational trails in Washington was recently released by the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office. This analysis describes and quantifies the many benefits associated with walking, running, biking, hiking, and backpacking on trails in Washington. The study will assist in the decision-making process regarding the allocation of dedicated resources and investment in Washington’s trail networks. Additionally, the information will aid in increasing and leveraging economic benefits in the development of public-private partnerships aimed at stewardship and growth connected to Washington’s trail networks.
