ECONorthwest promised to deepen our commitment to embedding equity and racial justice into our work. We take an important step into that commitment by welcoming Dr. Jade Aguilar as the firm’s Director of Research Equity. In this new position, she brings a deep understanding of institutional and systemic factors that create and promote social inequities to our housing, transportation, education, safety net, and natural resource work.
Jade comes to ECONorthwest from Willamette University where, since 2017, she served as Vice President for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). In that role, she planned and executed the university’s EDI strategy while earning a promotion to full professor. Her research examines performance and opportunity gaps due to race, gender, family income, resource allocation, and other factors, as well as the effectiveness of strategies that try to close these gaps. She specializes in research methods that promote equity and center community engagement instead of traditional methods that perpetuate existing inequities.
“We take seriously our responsibility to ensure that our analyses consider economic disparity and work to challenge inequity,” said ECONorthwest president John Tapogna. “Jade will help us pose sharper questions, devise better solutions, and deliver more value for our clients.”
