A New ECOnorthwest Report Weighs in on How Affordable Housing Affects Oregon’s Economy

A new ECOnorthwest report summarizes employers’ perspectives on housing and the regional economy and underscores the need to accelerate housing production to slow the growth in prices. Economists have argued that unaffordable housing is a drag on a local economy, and Oregon’s state economist just declared high-priced housing a macroeconomic risk.

Employers in the Bend-Redmond region agree. In a survey commissioned by the Bend Chamber of Commerce, 81% of employer respondents said the high cost of housing severely impacted their ability to hire. And 91% said housing costs limited their growth and strained their workforces.
