University of Oregon Honors ECONorthwest Founder, Ed Whitelaw, with Endowed Chair in Urban Economics

The University of Oregon recently received a $3.5 million gift that honors ECONorthwest founder, Ed Whitelaw, by creating the Ed Whitelaw Chair in Urban Economics. The gift also establishes the W. R. B. Willcox Chair in Urban Design in honor of another influential University of Oregon professor. One goal of the gift is to promote collaborations between the fields of urban economics and urban design. Professor Whitelaw commented, “This gift honors teaching. In teaching, I finally learned some economics—and, more important—saw students learn far more than economics.”

Ed Whitelaw joined the economics faculty at the University of Oregon in 1967 and founded ECONorthwest in 1974.
